The philosophy of a childcare center largely influences the types of activities and curriculum and the kind of care that will be present in the center. At Miss Joanne’s Learning Center, our philosophy is based on that of Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian Physician who first introduced her method of teaching in 1907. The environment provided and the implementation of her philosophy helped the development of the whole child. Our classroom is designed so that young children will have hands on experience and freedom of choice while also participating in group activities. It is our goal to help children develop the senses, increase coordination, expand intellectual ability, and build relationships, as well as their ability to master their environment and be independent.
Our preschool is indeed a child’s world, geared to the size, pace, and interests of children between the ages of 2 years 10 months to five years of age. The children have freedom of movement in our specially prepared environment full of attractive, stimulating, challenging and age-appropriate activities including: practical life, sensory activities, science & nature, music & movement, library & books, health & safety, art, writing, group work, cooking, dramatic play, social studies and academic skills.
We intend to capture the moment when a child is truly open to learn a particular concept.
